Solutions to Industrial Pollution

Solutions to Industrial Pollution
  • One solution for industrial pollution is for factories to use clean energy such as solar, wind, and geothermal which would reduce air pollution.
  • Toxic metals, such as lead, should be restricted to a maximum and treated before environmental release.

  • Increasing the efficiency of industrial motors and boilers, which is mostly used in the United States, or upgrading them would reduce emissions because they work better.
  • The co-generation of heat and and electricity instead of making them separately, would reduce air pollution. Fuel is burned to generate electricity and with the left over heat, you could use it to make chemicals or process food instead of wasting it. Places that use co-generation, such as Europe, are able to get about 85% of the fuel they burn.

  • The iron and steel industry is the biggest energy-consuming manufacturing industry in the world. Air pollution is produced at certain parts and solutions can be provided for each part. For coking, coke is a fuel used to melt ore, factories an make sure the oven doors are closed tightly so toxic emissions don't come out or just don't use "coke". For casting, which is pouring the molten ore that's now liquid into a container, factories can "roll" them immediately to avoid the energy needed to reheat it. For co-generation, the gases made could be burnt to make energy. You can also recycle steel so we don't have to make it.

  • Oil refineries can be more efficient by not allowing a "pinch" in the system where everything slows down. Recovering the energy and heat lost when using an oil refinery can reduce emissions to the environment.
